📖 Story Time: Skelly O’Jelly and the Shaky-Shake Parade

By The Dog and Mouse Company ©

Once upon a moonlit midnight (but not the spooky kind 🌙), there lived a skeleton named Skelly O’Jelly.

He wasn’t like other skeletons who creaked and rattled—his bones wobbled like jelly! When the wind blew, he heard music in the air and couldn’t help but dance.

💨 “Whoo-whoo!” went the wind.
🦴 “Shake-a-shake-shake!” went Skelly.

He twirled past pumpkins, tap-danced over tombstones, and spun through the Dog and Mouse Company bakery! Dog dropped his frosting spoon in surprise.
“Wow, that skeleton’s got groove!” he barked.
Mouse cheered, “Go, Skelly, go! You’re not bone-dry—you’re bone-fly!”

But as Skelly danced, pop!—his bones came apart! His arms, legs, and even his ribcage bounced away like musical popcorn.

Did he give up? Nope!
He gathered himself piece by piece, clicked everything back together, and called it his Remix Routine!

Dog and Mouse had the best idea ever—
“Let’s make a parade!” said Mouse.
“With Skelly as the star!” said Dog.

They hung glow-sticks, banged on pots and pans, and marched down the street as Skelly led the way doing his Bone Boogie Moon March!

Everyone joined in—the kids, the pumpkins, even the moon. And from that night on, whenever anyone heard a clink, clack, or pop! in the distance, they knew it wasn’t spooky—just Skelly O’Jelly, shaking happiness everywhere he went.

💫 The End.

The Bone Rattler Candy Apple Halloween Skeleton Snack Idea for Kids by DogAndMouseCompany.com

🍎 “The Bone Rattler Candy Apple”

(A Spooky Halloween Skeleton Treat That’ll Tickle Your Funny Bone!)

Looking for a Halloween treat that’s spooky, silly, and sweet all at once? Meet The Bone Rattler Candy Apple — a chocolate-covered apple coated in white candy bones that look like they came straight from Skelly O’Jelly’s snack stash!

Perfect for classroom parties, Halloween movie nights, or just a little kitchen fun with your kids, this easy DIY treat looks like it took forever — but it’s secretly super simple to make.

🎃 Ingredients & Supplies

  • Apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work great)

  • Wooden popsicle sticks or craft sticks

  • Chocolate candy melts or milk chocolate chips

  • White candy bone sprinkles (store-bought)

  • Wax paper or parchment paper

  • Small bowl for melting chocolate

👩🍳 Super Simple Directions

  1. Insert your stick.
Push a wooden popsicle stick firmly into the top of each apple.

  2. Melt your chocolate.
Heat chocolate candy melts or chips in the microwave, stirring every 30 seconds until smooth.

  3. Coat your apple.
Dip each apple into the melted chocolate, spinning slowly until fully covered.
Let any extra drip off before setting it onto wax paper.

  4. Add your “bones.”
While the chocolate is still warm, press the white candy bone sprinkles all around the apple’s surface.
Make it look spooky-funny — like a skeleton that just exploded into candy! You could also wait until the chocolate dries  solid on the apple and then add a little dot of warm melted chocolate to the back of the candy bone and then stick it to the candy apple so it has the same look as in the picture.

  5. Let it set.
Chill the apples in the fridge for about 15 minutes or until the chocolate hardens.

  6. Serve and giggle.
Place each apple in a small dish with extra bone sprinkles around the base for that “graveyard glow-up” look.

🧡 Parent Tip:

These candy apples make adorable centerpiece snacks for a Halloween table! Add a name tag tied around the stick for a personalized party treat.

🎲 Game: The Shaky-Shake Freeze Dance

Play Skelly’s favorite game!

  1. Turn on music and let kids dance their bones off!

  2. When the music stops, everyone must freeze like a skeleton!

  3. The last one to freeze has to do a silly “bone shake” in the middle.

🎵 Bonus idea: Play a drum beat or shake maracas for spooky-fun rhythm!

🎵 Song: “Shake Your Bones with Skelly O’Jelly”

(Tune: “If You’re Happy and You Know It”)

🎶
If your bones are feelin’ jiggly, shake around! (shake, shake!)
If your bones are feelin’ giggly, make a sound! (clack, clack!)
If your elbows go a-wiggle,
And your knees begin to giggle,
Then you’re dancin’ like old Skelly—shakin’ proud!
