📖 Story Time

The Snowman Who Didn’t Want a Carrot Nose
By The Dog and Mouse Company ©

It was the first snowy morning of winter. ❄️
Dog and Mouse were outside rolling big, round snowballs in the yard.

“Let’s build a snowman!” barked Dog, his tail wagging fast.
“Good idea!” squeaked Mouse. “He’ll need a head, a hat, and—of course—a nose!”

They stacked two big snowballs.
One for the bottom.
And one for the head.

Dog found some sticks for arms.
Mouse pressed in two shiny buttons for eyes.

“There!” Dog said proudly. “Now all he needs is a carrot for his nose!”

But just as Dog stuck the carrot into the snowman’s face, something surprising happened…

The snowman sneezed!
“Achoo!”

Then he opened his button eyes and said,
“A carrot? No thank you! I don’t want a carrot nose!”

Dog’s ears flopped. “You don’t?”
Mouse’s whiskers twitched. “Then what kind of nose do you want?”

The snowman thought for a moment.
“Hmmm… maybe something different! Something special!”

So Dog and Mouse began to look.

First, Mouse rolled up with a banana. 🍌
The snowman tried it on.
But the banana slipped right off! Splat!
“Too slippery!” laughed Mouse.

Then Dog brought an ice cream cone. 🍦
The snowman grinned. “Ooo, fancy!”
But after a few seconds… drip, drip, drip!
“Too melty!” said Dog.

Next, they tried a donut. 🍩
“Now that’s delicious!” said the snowman.
But before he could say another word, Dog gobbled it up!
“Oops,” said Dog, licking his lips.

Mouse scurried off and came back with a balloon. 🎈
The snowman smiled. “Perfect!”
But as soon as the snowman sneezed again—POP!
Everyone jumped!

“Too poppy!” said the snowman.

Finally, Mouse pulled something shiny out of his pocket.
It was a peppermint candy. 🍬
The snowman gasped. “Oh! That’s perfect!”

He stuck the peppermint right in the middle of his face.
It sparkled in the winter sun, red and white and swirly.

“Now that’s a nose that fits me just right!” he said proudly.

Dog wagged his tail. “You’re the only snowman with a candy nose in the whole world!”
Mouse nodded. “And the sweetest one, too!”

The snowman laughed so hard, a few snowflakes tumbled off his hat.
“Thank you, my friends. I guess it’s okay to be a little different.”

Dog barked happily. “As long as you don’t melt before we have hot cocoa!”

They all laughed, and the peppermint-nosed snowman twinkled in the winter sunshine, smiling from ear to ear.

Dog and Mouse built a snowman tall,
Round and jolly and white as a wall,
They gave him buttons, hat, and clothes,
But he shouted, “Hey! No carrot nose!”

No carrots for me, no thank you please!
I want a nose that’ll make me sneeze!
Banana, donut, candy, cone,
Let’s find a nose that’s all my own!

They tried a banana—slipped, oh no!
Ice cream melted—drip, drip, whoa!
Donut vanished—Dog said “Yum!”
Balloon went pop!—that’s not the one!

No carrots for me, no thank you please!
I want a nose that’ll make me sneeze!
Peppermint candy, red and white,
That’s my nose—it fits just right!

I’m the snowman, proud to pose,
With my peppermint candy nose!

🎲 Activity: Pin the Nose on the Snowman

How to Play:

  1. Hang up a large paper snowman on the wall.

  2. Cut out several different noses (carrot, candy, donut, balloon, banana).

  3. Blindfold each player and spin them gently.

  4. See who can “pin” the nose closest to the right spot!

💡 Alternative: No blindfold? Just toss paper noses like “snowballs” and see who can land it on the snowman’s face.

🎭 Pretend Play: Build-a-Snowman Theater

  • Pretend you’re Dog and Mouse building a snowman!

  • Use household items as “noses” (banana, spoon, toy block, sock, etc.).

  • Act out the story and decide which silly nose fits best.

🎩 Add music! Play “Frosty the Snowman” or make up your own “No Carrots for Me!” song.

📝 Poem: The Snowman’s Silly Nose

A carrot nose? Oh no, not me!
I want to be unique, you see!
A candy swirl, a donut round,
Or maybe something funny I found!
Being different’s fun to do—
That’s what makes me me and you you!

💬 Talk About It

Questions for your child:

  • Which nose was your favorite?

  • What would you pick for your snowman’s nose?

  • Why did the snowman change his mind at the end?

🎥 Movie Suggestion

Cozy up after craft time and watch:
Frosty the Snowman, The Snowman, or Olaf’s Frozen Adventure.
